How is the trip funded?
These challenges are discounted trips which are made possible by the number of people taking part in a common itinerary(from 12 upto 40 people). Intrepid Challenges gives the charity a package price per person and the sponsorship level is set accordingly. Your registration fee is your personal contribution towards the cost of the Challenge. The actual cost of the trip is of course greater than the registration fee and the balance is paid from the sponsorship you raise. You need to explain to any sponsors that you are making a personal contribution towards the trip costs and that a percentage of the money you raise will pay the balance of your costs. Typically a minimum of 50% of your fundraising will go directly to the charity and the more you raise as a group the higher this proportion is.
Will people think that they are sponsoring me to take a subsidised holiday?
Definitely not! None of these challenges could be considered a holiday. You will
be training for the months prior to your event to get fit, raising thousands of dollars for charity, and then undertaking a real physical challenge - all of these elements take time, effort and commitment. None of our challenges are easy options and will test the average person in the ways they've never experienced before. They are designed to be very rewarding experiences that will challenge you in more ways than one. For example you could be trekking or biking for days on end, with very basic facilities en route, in remote areas and sometimes at high altitude. That would not correspond to most people's definition of a holiday.

How will I be able to raise the sponsorship money?
Raising funds is often the toughest part of the challenge. However, it is possible to reach and even exceed the sponsorship target as many participants of all ages and from all walks of life have proved. We have included an A-Z of fundraising ideas to give you some ideas. Your Charity will also offer support and pass on invaluable advice from other participants.
Do I have to fundraise or can I simply choose to donate the required target?
Fundraising to reach the target is considered to be part of the "Challenge" but if you would prefer to personally pay all or part of the amount that is acceptable.
But please note that if you choose to pay all or part of the fundraising target yourself, this payment is not tax deductible.
What happens if I can't raise the sponsorship money?
The costs of your challenge are paid up front, so we insist that at least 80% of the minimum sponsorship level is paid to us at least 70 days prior to departure.
If you do not fundraise the full amount, you are also welcome to make up the shortfall yourself. Your Charity will help you reach that target, however, if you do not raise this amount you will forfeit your eligibility to participate.
In some cases it may be possible for you to transfer to a later tour, at our discretion and if your sponsors are agreeable. Please refer to our booking conditions on the registration page.
Are donations tax deductible?
This can depend on how you raised the money but generally the entire amount of the donation over $2 is tax deductible to the donor. For an amount to be a donation it is assumed at all times that the donor is not the same person as the participant, or an associate of either. The conditions for a donation are that it must be made voluntarily and does not provide benefits to the donor. When you register your Charity will provide you further information which will cover these questions.
What is included in the price?
Once you have registered and raised the minimum sponsorship required, you are entitled to a place on the challenge including flights, transport, food, accommodation, guides and other inclusions. The exact inclusions for each trip vary and are listed on the individual web page for that Challenge.
What is not included?
You will need to pay for your own transfers to and from the departure airport in Australia.
